Taxes
What it does
Taxes lists the rates your organisation charges, with the name, the percentage, and who created and last changed each one. Create Tax opens a form with a Name and a Percentage.
Selecting a row opens the tax, where Edit changes it and More Actions offers View audit history and Delete, plus Set as default on a tax that is not the default. A tax created during onboarding, such as GST at ten per cent, is already on this list.
While you have any taxes, one of them is always your default. A new item starts with the default tax, and you can change it or set it to None on the item. The list and the tax’s own page show a Default badge beside the default tax. Your first tax becomes the default, including the one created during onboarding. To change the default, mark another tax as the default, which takes the badge off the first one. Items you already have keep the tax they were given.
Before you start
Reading the list is open to every member. Create Tax, Edit, Delete and Set as default need administrator or above, and the buttons are absent below that role.
A percentage has to be between zero and one hundred.
Deleting a tax asks you to confirm first. Documents you have already made keep the tax they were made with. You can delete the default tax only when it is your last tax, such as after you stop charging tax. Delete on the default is greyed out while you have other taxes. Mark another tax as the default before you delete it.
How to use it
- Open Settings, then Taxes under Organisation.
- Select Create Tax.
- Enter the name the tax is known by, such as GST or VAT.
- Enter the percentage. Up to four decimal places are accepted.
- Select Create.
To make a tax the default, open it and select Set as default from More Actions.
You can open a tax’s audit history from More Actions on its page.
An MCP client can create, update and delete taxes. Setting the default is only on this page. An MCP client can’t delete the default tax while you have other taxes either.
