Creating and editing a task
What it does
Create Task on the Tasks tab opens the task form. The left side takes the title, the description, the due date and the board placement. The right side takes the team and assignee, a task reference of your own, a parent record and the priority.
Placing a task on a board is two choices. Pick the board, then pick the column within it. Leaving the board as No board creates the task without a placement, and it still appears in the task list.
Priority is Low, Medium, High or Urgent, and a task starts at Medium. Every new task starts at the Assigned status.
Edit in the task heading reopens the same form on an existing task.
Hermes can create a task too, and the team is optional there. If you are in only one team, the task goes to that team. If the organisation has only one team, the task goes there. Otherwise Hermes asks which team the task belongs to.
Before you start
A board with no columns is left out of the board picker, because a task cannot be placed on one.
The column picker only shows once you have chosen a board, and is unavailable until its columns finish loading.
Deleting a task is for a team leader and above. Everyone else finds the entry in More Actions unavailable, with a tooltip explaining why. It is the only task action a role decides - any member can edit every field on this form.
How to use it
- Open Work Boards, select the Tasks tab, then select Create Task.
- Give the task a title, and a description where the work needs explaining.
- Set a due date.
- Choose a work board, then a column on it.
- Set the team and assignee, a reference, a parent record and the priority.
- Select Create.
- To change any of it later, open the task and select Edit.
Leaving the form with changes you have not saved asks you first.
Troubleshooting
If the list of boards or the list of teams cannot be read, the form says so beside the field.
