Hermes credits and spending limits

What it does

Hermes work is metered in credits, weighed from the text read and written on each reply. The Early Access plan includes 2,000 credits a month, and a yearly subscription includes twelve months of them across the year. The free plan includes none, so Hermes is unavailable on it.

Once the monthly credits are spent, work continues at $20.00 per 1,000 credits and the amount is added to the next invoice. The spending limit is the ceiling on that. While the overage stands at or above it, Hermes stops replying and says so. The limit starts at $100 a month and can be moved to anything between $0 and $1,000, where $0 means no ceiling at all.

The Hermes AI Credits card on the billing page shows the free credits used against the allowance and the overage so far this period. The spending limit and the rate being charged are under them.

The same credits pay for chat, the inbox briefing, the analysis Hermes runs over your records and the questions an external agent asks over MCP. The embeddings behind semantic search and the tool calls inside a reply are not charged.

Before you start

Billing is open to an owner, and the limit moves only from there. Owners are emailed as the overage passes 50, 75, 90 and 100 percent of it.

A cancelled subscription turns Hermes off until it is settled, and so does one that has fallen past due or is in its grace period, whatever credits are left.

Credits are counted for the organisation that pays. A sub-organisation spends its parent’s allowance and is capped by its parent’s limit.

How to use it

  1. Open the billing page under organisation settings.
  2. Read the Hermes AI Credits card for what has been spent this period.
  3. Select the spending limit to change it, enter an amount in dollars, and save. Enter 0 for no limit.

Troubleshooting

If Hermes stops replying, the panel says which limit you hit. The reasons are a message over 10,000 characters, a plan without Hermes or your spending limit. It can also be a conversation that has grown too long for Hermes to read at once. Raising the spending limit starts Hermes again. For a conversation that has grown too long, start a new one instead.

  • Asking Hermes: Hermes replies to a question about your business from a command palette that opens on every page of the app.
  • What Hermes can do and change: Hermes reads your records to answer, and creates or changes orders, contacts, items, stock, notes, tasks and boards when you ask it to.
  • What Hermes remembers: Hermes keeps the facts and nicknames you give it and reads them back in later conversations.
