Quests

What it does

A quest is a short walkthrough of one job, told by Hermes. Each step dims the page and lights up the control it is about. Hermes appears beside it with one instruction. The dots under his line show how far through you are.

Most steps move on when you do what they ask. You select the button or fill in the field. A field only counts once what you enter is valid, such as a complete email address. Other steps have you save the form or ask Hermes the question. A step that asks you to save moves on once you select the button it lights up and the saved page opens. Cancel, Back or a link somewhere else does not count as a save. A step that only explains something has a Next button, which reads Finish on the last step. A step about another page has a Take me there button. If you already did what a step asks, Hermes says so and moves past it. You can also do a later step first, such as saving a form early. The quest then counts the steps before it as done.

When a step is waiting on a control, selecting anything else on the page does nothing. The light around the control pulses instead. Scrolling works as usual. Hermes and his Ask Hermes button still work, as do messages and any window the app opens. When the control is inside a window an earlier step opened, such as the message in Review Quote, selecting anything else in that window does nothing either. A step that only explains something doesn’t stop you selecting anything. A form can refuse to save and show an error when you select its button. If the quest hasn’t moved on a moment after you select the lit button, the rest of the page works again. It stays that way until the step changes. You can then fix the form and select the button again.

If a menu or window a step is about closes, Hermes moves to the corner and says “Looks like that closed. Reopen it and we’ll carry on.” The quest picks up again when it reopens. When an earlier step opened that menu or window, Hermes goes back to that step instead and says “That closed, so I’ve taken us back a step.” A window that closes because you saved it gets neither line, and the quest moves on once the save finishes. If the button a step is about disappears from a record’s page because the record changed, such as a quote someone sent in another tab, Hermes asks you to open another record of the kind the quest needs and offers Take me there. If a search is on a board a step is about, Hermes asks you to clear it, since cards can’t be dragged during a search. If the column that completes tasks is collapsed, or the column holding your open cards is, he asks you to expand that column. The quest stays on that board.

Hermes offers a quest on the screen it belongs to, in a card under the Ask Hermes button. He waits until you have been on the screen a moment without typing, with no window or menu open and no half-filled form. The offer shows the job, what it achieves, why it matters, the number of steps and roughly how long it takes. Let’s go starts it, Later puts it off for three days, and Don’t ask again stops that offer. An offer left alone for 20 seconds goes away by itself. Hermes makes at most one offer every 10 minutes, and an offer you leave alone twice is not made again.

A gold ! on the Ask Hermes button means this screen has a quest you can start. A grey ? means a quest you paused can pick up here. Selecting ! puts up that quest’s offer, and selecting ? resumes the paused quest.

Browse quests, in the Ask Hermes panel, opens your Quest Chart. Asking Hermes to show you how to do something starts the matching quest as well. A quest that works on one record, such as a quote or a contact, starts from the Quest Chart and waits until you open that record. A quest you paused on a record page goes back to that record when you resume it, even after a reload. If that record has since been deleted, or no longer suits the step, such as a quote already sent or an order already paid, the quest waits until you open another one. Hermes says “I can’t show this step here” and names the record that suits the step, such as a draft quote, a sales order with stock to fulfil or a company, with the step’s own instruction under it. Take me there opens the list you pick the record from, such as the quotes list or the contacts list. On that list, Hermes asks you to open a record from it, again with the step’s own instruction under it.

The Ask Hermes panel reads Search while Hermes is turned off and quests remain on. With quests off too, the panel is gone from the page.

A finished quest gets a Quest complete card. The card shows what you can do with it and offers the next quest in the series. With achievements on, it also shows the experience you get. Finish every quest in one part of Lucrii, such as Contacts, and you get a larger celebration.

Your organisation chooses how quests arrive. Offered lets Hermes make offers by himself. On request leaves quests on your Quest Chart for you to start, and Off removes them. The organisation’s choice applies to every member.

Your Quest Chart is the Quest Chart tab on the My Progress page, which you open with My Progress in the menu under your name, at the foot of the sidebar. My Progress opens on its first tab, so select Quest Chart if another tab shows. Browse quests, in the Ask Hermes panel, opens the Quest Chart directly. The tab shows while your organisation’s quests setting is not Off. The summary at the top of My Progress stays off this tab, and the chart fills the page below the tabs.

The Quest Chart is a map of your quests, drawn as a climb that starts at Base camp at the foot of the map. Each quest is a round marker, and a side quest is a smaller diamond. Roads join a quest to the ones it needs first. A double ink ring marks a finished quest, and a dotted ring a locked one. Gold marks a quest ready to start, and solid red-orange marks a quest under way. A quest that isn’t open to you shows a question mark and no name. Hermes stands beside the quest you are on, and footprints walk up the road to it. When no quest is under way, Hermes doesn’t appear, and the chart opens on the next ready quest.

Drag or scroll to move the map, and pinch or hold Ctrl and scroll to zoom. On a phone, drag to move and pinch to zoom. The buttons in the bottom right corner are Zoom in, Zoom out, Show the whole chart and Go to your current quest. From the keyboard, press Tab to reach the map and use the arrow keys to move it. Plus and minus zoom, and 0 shows the whole chart. The zoom shows in the top left corner and goes up to 400%. Below 60%, only your current quest keeps its name on the map, or the next ready quest when none is under way.

Select a quest to open its card. The card shows the quest’s name. A quest you have not finished also carries a step count, such as 3 steps, or, for a quest under way, the step you are on, such as Step 2 of 3. Under that, the card says what the quest gets done. A locked quest’s card starts Unlocks when you finish and names the quests to finish first, or reads Unlocks as you finish earlier quests when it can’t name them. A ready quest’s card has Start Quest, and a paused quest’s card has Resume. Either button closes the card, and Hermes shows the step you are on. The quest Hermes is showing you has no button on its card. A finished quest’s card has no step count and reads Completed. A quest that isn’t open to you reads Uncharted, with Keep exploring to reveal this quest. To close the card, select the quest again, select an empty part of the map or press Esc.

A quest about a part of the product your organisation has turned off is out of the offers, and the Quest Chart shows it as a question mark. Turning Hermes or Achievements off in general settings does the same to that feature’s quests. A demo organisation does the same to its quests for exploring the App Store and connecting an AI assistant.

Before you start

Offers need your organisation set to Offered. They also need a window wide enough to show them. Hermes does not offer while a quest is running.

Some quests open only after others are finished. The Quest Chart shows which to finish first.

A quest you have started carries on where you left it, even after Lucrii changes. A quest you finished stays finished.

Quests scoped to the organisation are completed once for everyone, and an administrator is the one who moves them along.

How to use it

  1. Select Let’s go on an offer, the ! on the Ask Hermes button, or Start Quest on a quest’s card in your Quest Chart.
  2. Do what Hermes asks on the control he lights up, or select Next on a step that only explains.
  3. Carry on to the last step. The quest completes when you finish it.
  4. To stop partway, select the X on Hermes’ card or press Esc.
  5. To carry on later, select Resume on the bar at the bottom of the screen.

Leaving the page a step is on also pauses the quest, except while the quest waits for you to open its record. The bar shows the step you are on and comes back after a reload. The bar’s menu has an Abandon quest item, which clears your progress so the quest can be offered again later. A quest paused inside a panel or card that an earlier step opened, such as a new task card or the invite panel, picks up at the step that opens it. A quest paused on a button that needs something you typed, such as Post under a note, picks up at the step where you type it.

To stop one offer, select Don’t ask again. To stop quests altogether, an administrator sets Quests to Off in the organisation’s general settings.

Troubleshooting

Hermes waits in the corner saying the control closed. Reopen the menu or window the step is about and the quest carries on. To stop instead, select the X.

Hermes says he can’t show the step here when the record you are on does not suit it, such as a quote already sent or a person where the quest needs a company. Open the kind of record he names, or select Take me there to pick one from its list.

You don’t see an offer. Hermes waits until you settle on a screen and limits itself to one offer every 10 minutes, never while a quest is running. The ! on the Ask Hermes button and your Quest Chart are always there.

  • Asking Hermes: Hermes replies to a question about your business from a command palette that opens on every page of the app.
  • What Hermes can do and change: Hermes reads your records to answer, and creates or changes orders, contacts, items, stock, notes, tasks and boards when you ask it to.
  • Hermes credits and spending limits: Hermes work is metered in credits against a monthly allowance, and a spending limit caps what your organisation spends beyond it.
  • Achievements, levels and the leaderboard: Work in Lucrii pays experience towards levels and achievements, and the leaderboard ranks the organisation by season.
  • Your profile: Your name, email, picture, personal email signature and password are all on the profile page.
