--- title: Tags on a contact description: "Tags are free-text chips on a contact, suggested from the ones your organisation already uses." lastUpdated: 2026-09-30 order: 50 --- ## What it does The Tags card in the right-hand column of a contact shows the labels on that record, each as a chip. Add a tag opens a small field in place, and typing offers the tags your organisation has used before. Each chip has a cross for taking it off again. Tags are your own vocabulary rather than a fixed list, which suits what the other fields do not cover, such as a region or an account manager. ## Before you start Tags do not create their own filtered views. The contacts list filters by type, not by tag. ## How to use it 1. Open a contact and find the Tags card. 2. Select Add a tag. 3. Type the tag, or choose one of the suggestions. Suggestions come from tags your organisation has already used, so the first tag of its kind needs to be typed out in full. 4. Press Enter to add it. 5. Select the cross on a chip to take that tag off.
